Description of The Log House

Set in extensive, private woodland grounds which extend to over 25 acres, The Log House nestles within a mixed ‘old plantation’ forest offering the most outstanding ‘get away’ retreat. Located just outside Capel Curig and only six miles from Snowdon, the house was built over 110 years ago by a Norwegian sea captain. It was later owned by the Lloyd George family during the 1920s, reputedly used by the prime minister at the height of his powers as a hideaway for himself and his girlfriends! Guests are free to roam the grounds which are available for their exclusive use. Features include a lively tributary of the River Llugwy which tumbles down the mountain side on the eastern boundary, a tennis court, cross country running track, summer house (built by Lloyd George), an orchard and football pitch! There is also a small heated outdoor swimming pool available by prior arrangement. Follow tracks around the grounds, some of which take you to the top of Alt Goch, and these offer amazing 360 degree views of Snowdonia. Moel Siabod, a 872m high summit (from which it is reputedly possible to see 13 of the 14 highest peaks in Wales on a clear day), can be conquered direct from the house and forms an amazing back drop to the lower gardens. The house is surrounded by terraced gardens and for those with the outdoor spirit, a fire pit with seating is available on an upper terrace for evenings around an open fire. A path leads up to the property which provides a unique and cosy atmosphere only a log house can generate. Views of the lower ranges of Snowdonia can be seen from two bedrooms and the rear terrace. Nearby Betws-y-Coed is known for its bustling shops, pubs and restaurants. Swallow Falls are a 30-minute walk (or 5 minutes’ drive), and Llanberis, Snowdon and the outdoor pursuits of Capel Curig are easily accessible. Porthmadog, the Llyn Peninsula with sandy beaches and the Roman town of Caernarfon and its castle are worth a visit. Shops 2 miles.
