Nestling under the Coniston Fells in the heart of the Lake District National Park, this group of delightful holiday cottages (refs LD3, LD4 and LP1) are converted from a 17th-century barn and form a quaint hamlet-style setting with superb open views. Torver is a small picturesque village 3 miles south-west of Coniston in a beautiful and romantic valley, surrounded by spectacular scenery. The village is welcoming, warm and friendly and has two pubs serving good food (660 yards). The area abounds with woods, crags, streams and waterfalls, and is home to a wealth of wildlife including squirrels and deer. Walks from the doorstep lead directly to Coniston Old Man and the shore of Coniston Water where there are picnic and paddling areas. Coniston village is a famous centre for walking, climbing and cycling, and boats may be hired on the lake, as well as trips taken on the Victorian steam yacht Gondola. Windermere, Ambleside, Hawkshead, Grasmere and Beatrix Potter’s Sawrey are within a scenic drive giving stunning views of mountains and lakes in every direction. Superb visitor attractions such as the Lakeland Motor Museum, Dalton Wild Animal Park with its Sumatran tigers, Aquarium of the Lakes and the Haverthwaite to Lakeside Steam Railway at Lakeside are easily accessible. The area is rich in historic houses and gardens including Muncaster Castle, Holker Hall and grounds, Sizergh castle, Levens Hall and topiary gardens. Shops 2 miles, pub ½ mile.
