The holiday playground of Lewis Carroll’s real life ‘Alice’ of Alice in Wonderland, the unspoilt Edwardian charm of Llandudno has made it a popular seaside resort for many years and today, the largest seaside resort in Wales, Llandudno’s golden, award-winning beaches, many attractions and traditional feel means it’s still a great favourite. Llandudno’s impressive headlands, the Great Orme and Little Orme, get their name from the Norse word for sea serpent or worm; home to Neolithic and Bronze Age heritage the whole area is a great place for walking, nature, wildlife and fossils.
Llandudno itself offers everything you need for a great family holiday: elegant promenade, pier, two great beaches, plus plenty of great shopping, good eateries, gardens, annual festivals and panoramic views across the bay to Snowdonia and Anglesey. Making use of the Orme’s steep gradient there’s even a top class all weather ski slope!
Further afield you’ll find superb scenery and activities in the Snowdonia National Park, great castles, glorious gardens and a wealth of attractions and activities all a short drive from your cheap Llandudno holiday cottage.
Hit the beach! Choose from the North Shore with its pier and boat trips, bands on the promenade, donkey rides and regular Punch and Judy shows in the warmer months. The West Shore is a more tranquil destination backed by sandy dunes with views out to Puffin Island – perfect for picnics and beach cricket.
Climb the Little Orme for stunning coastal views and watch experienced climbers scale the cliffs. To reach the summit of the Great Orme take the longest cable tramway in Britain, cable car or go by foot if you’re keen. There’s a visitor centre on the top, plus 4,000-year-old Bronze Age Cavern to explore. If you’re looking for more adrenalin fuelled fun check out the Ski Slope and Toboggan Run found near the Happy Valley Park; the Artificial Ski Championships are held here every year.
Little ones will love Bodafon Park with its owls and farm animals, there’s the Oriel Mostyn Gallery and North Wales Theatre for culture lovers, plus Victorian Extravaganza and Llandudno Festival for colour, carnival, music and literature each July. Further afield visit towering Conwy Castle for superb heritage, Snowdonia National Park and the breathtaking gardens at Bodnant.
