Holiday Cottages in St Andrews

St Andrews

Mainstay of the medieval church in Scotland, home to one of the oldest universities in Britain and, many believe, with over 600 years of teeing off the true home of golf, St Andrews sits proudly within the lovely region of Fife on the edge of Scotland’s east coast.  With its castle, cathedral, galleries, great shops and picturesque shoreline, St Andrews is a great base for your cheap cottage holiday in Scotland.

There are wealth of courses in and around St Andrews, many of which are championship courses.  The world famous St Andrews Golf Club is, of course, a huge draw for golfers from all over the world and you’ll also find the British Museum of Golf that traces the game from medieval times to present day.

Craigtoun Country Park is a wonderful spot for fun and games and further afield you can enjoy royal heritage, boat trips to see sea birds and seals, sailing, off-roading, horse riding and much, much in and around this historic town.

Things to do in St. Andrews

Alongside its top golfing credentials, St Andrews offers much to explore and enjoy from its lovely Botanical Gardens and ancient ruins to its regular farmers’ market, family run independent shops and renowned spooky Witches Tour.  Plus, there are lots of wonderful walks and cycling to be found all around St. Andrews, including the Fife Coastal Path for great costal views and wildlife.

Culture lovers will enjoy a varied menu of entertainment at the superb Byre Theatre (the original theatre building was an old cow shed) with a great café/bar/restaurant for lunch and dinner.  Plus you’ll find the Fife Contemporary Art and Craft in St. Andrew’s Town Hall.  Craigtoun Country Park has a wealth of activities to offer the whole family from crazy golf to boating, pets’ corner and bowling greens; a great place to let off steam with some delightful formal gardens – hop aboard the miniature railway and check out the adventure playground too.

Further afield pay a visit to the childhood home of the Queen Mother at romantic Glamis Castle just to the north and take a boat trip out to the Isle of May in the outer Firth of Forth for wonderful walks, seabirds and grey seal colony.
