Holiday Cottages in Trossachs

Trossachs

Often called ‘the Highlands in miniature’, the name Trossachs refers to the beautiful landscape of lochs, mountains, pretty towns and tranquil hamlets including Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine and the mountains of Ben A’an and Ben Venue.

From the Gaelic meaning ‘bristled country’ the Trossachs were made famous by Sir Walter Scott, whose poem The Lady of the Lake was set on Loch Katrine and whose novel, Rob Roy, was based on the famous outlaw from the area. Queen Victoria loved this region and built a holiday home overlooking Loch Katrine and the area is now part of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park – 720 sq miles of some of the finest scenery in Scotland.

Escape from the hurley-burley of modern life to this haven of tranquillity, surrounded by stunning views, fantastic walks, amazing outdoor activities and a wealth of wildlife and heritage, all on the doorstep of your welcoming, cheap holiday cottage in the Trossachs.

Things to do in the Trossachs

A fantastic place to explore and enjoy bags of outdoor activities, the Trossachs National Park offers walking, boating, windsurfing and mountain biking to name just a few… Loch Katrine is one of countless lochs in the Trossachs; hop aboard the Sir Walter Scott steamer or, visit Loch Lomond, the largest expanse of freshwater in Britain and home to a superb aquarium.

An unusual day out, check out the Argaty Red Kite centre near Doune, where the RSPB have recently reintroduced this magnificent bird and you can see them feeding and flying in their natural habitat. There’s plenty of heritage in the Trossachs with Inchmahome Priory and the spectacular castle in Stirling or, for a tranquil trot around the countryside enjoy a spot of pony trekking.

With festivals, farmer’s markets, highland games and events happening throughout the year there’s something for all ages and tastes in this, one of the most beautiful regions of Scotland.
