The Loch itself has 38 islands, is 24 miles long and five miles wide and, at 600 feet deep in places, it’s the largest freshwater lake in Britain.  Backed by stunning mountain scenery, offering abundant wildlife, heritage and a superb array of activities and attractions Loch Lomond is a great base for your cheap self catering holiday cottage.

Stirling, recently made a city in 2002, is presided over by its great castle.  Once the home of Scottish Kings, Stirling’s place in Scottish history is possibly best remembered as the place from which William Wallace (Braveheart) and Robert the Bruce won Scotland’s independence.  The heritage ‘capital’ of Scotland wander Stirling’s winding cobbled streets and browse great shops, cafés and arts scene.  From here you can combine the best of both worlds with Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park a short drive away.
