Holiday Cottages in Orkney

Orkney

Off the northern tip of Scotland where the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet you’ll find the 70 or so islands that make up Orkney.  About 20 of Orkney’s islands are inhabited and each one has its own unique character and fascination.  Visit in the summer to make the most of the long daylight hours and immaculate, quiet sandy beaches or, in the winter, enjoy the stunning scenery, abundant wildlife and catch a glimpse of the awe inspiring famous Northern Lights.  A superb location for a get-a-way-from-it-all cottage holiday.

Things to do in Orkney

Man has lived amongst the islands for thousands of years and, because of Orkney’s wonderful Neolithic remains, a large area is a designated World Heritage site.  Visit the ancient village Skara Brae or the standing stones of Ring o’ Brodgar on the West Mainland. If you love arts and crafts you’ll find a wealth of small studios making everything from jewellery, furniture, textiles and ceramics, and the kids will love a trip to the Beacon Lighthouse, plus bags of wildlife spotting on a boat trip from many of the little islands.
