Isle of Skye

The largest and probably best known of the Scottish Islands, the Isle of Skye is dominated by the jagged peaks of the spectacular Cuillin Mountains.  One of the most popular tourist destinations in Scotland, the Isle of Skye has a vibrant heritage fed by ancient feuding Clans and famous as the place Bonnie Prince Charlie escaped to after his defeat at Culloden in 1746.

Spot dolphins, whales and soaring eagles; walkers and climbers will be in their element with over 20 Munros (high Scottish peaks) for great days out, plus lots of superb fishing, cycling, watersports, bird watching, arts and crafts all around the Isle.

Never far from dramatic seascapes, wildlife, history and nature, enjoy being as relaxed or as adventurous as you wish amid some of the most breathtaking scenery in Britain; all within easy reach of your cheap cottage holiday on Skye.

Things to do in the Isle of Skye

If you and yours enjoy castles you’ve come to the right place. Head for Dunvegan Castle: the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and home of the Clan MacLeod.  Plus, beautiful Armadale Castle and Gardens, which houses the Museum of the Isles, is set in a 20,000 acre highland estate and is home of the Clan Donald.

If you’re not an experienced walker or climber there are plenty of rangers and guided walks to help you enjoy everything Skye has to offer with miles of off road cycling, exhilarating sailing, diving and kayaking to name just a few of the other activities on offer.  Discover the wealth of wildlife in the waters around Skye including dolphins, whales and seals by way of the many boat trips and set up your rod for a days fishing on one of the many fast flowing rivers.

If the weather turns, head for the Aros Centre near Portree, an arts and heritage centre offering art, music, film as well as shops, restaurant and play areas.  At the Skye Museum of Island Life learn about the lives of ancient islanders and Skye’s more recent heritage with a tour round the famous Talisker Distillery on the shores of beautiful Loch Harport.
