
Just 15 miles up the road from Skipton, near to Grassington you’ll find the charming market town of Kettlewell. Found in the Domesday Book, Kettlewell thrived with the textile trade, today, Kettlewell, sat amid stunning Dales scenery, is a popular yet tranquil base for a super cottage holiday with plenty of stunning walks and rides literally on your doorstep.
Kettlewell is famous for its annual Scarecrow Festival in August and as one of the main locations for the hit film Calendar Girls. Enjoy the town’s independent shops, tea rooms and riverside walks. The more adventurous can strike off across the fells to the fantastically named Dowber Gill and Hag Dike, Great Whernside and Arncliffe. Cyclists too love this area and there’s plenty of heritage, arts, crafts and attractions close by to keep all the family happy.
Enjoy strolling around this picturesque town, take tea and set off further afield on some wonderful Dales walks. Enjoy this unique place from the saddle on two wheels or four legs. There’s full on family fun to be found at nearby Kilnsey Park Farm with pony trekking, nature trail, fun fishing, adult fishing and trout farm.
Just down the road in slightly larger Grassington you’ll find the Folk Museum and National Park visitor centre and also renowned for its superb caves, explore Ingleborough Cave at Clapham, White Scar Cave at Ingleton and Stump Cross Caverns. Plus there’s Parcevall Hall Gardens, 24 acres of glorious gardens and views out over Wharfedale and, a little further on, Bolton Abbey, part of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s Yorkshire estate.
