Surrounded by Wiltshire’s beautiful countryside, the county town of Salisbury is a superb base for your Wiltshire cottage holiday. Check out the famous Cathedral with its 404 foot spire, the Magna Carta (one of only four original 13th century documents drawn up at Runnymede between King John and his barons) and Europe’s oldest working clock.
To the north of Salisbury, standing tall against the elements, prehistoric Stonehenge has stood for thousands of years on Salisbury Plain. Now a World Heritage Site, visit this unique testament to our ancestors’ ingenuity. More evidence of the ancients can be found at Avebury Standing Stones with its prehistoric landscape, museum and galleries, plus check out the more recent nine white horse hillside carvings including Pewsey, Hackpen and Alton Barnes.
A day probably isn’t long enough to enjoy all that Longleat has to offer. Home of the Marquis of Bath with safari park, fine stately home, gardens, sea lion cruise and railway there’s bags of great attractions on this famous estate. Let off steam in the fantastic gardens of Bowood House with its superb adventure playground and little ones will love Cholderton Charlie’s Farm.
Enjoy plenty of great walking routes and cycle paths. There’s tranquil fishing available throughout the county, boating on the Kennet and Avon Canal, canoeing, sailing, scuba diving and horse riding.
