Found in the heart of Derbyshire’s stunning Peak District, Hartington is an ancient village, granted a market charter as long ago as 1203. Hartington’s picturesque stone buildings, old market place and quaint village green, complete with duck pond and village pump, give it a timeless charm. A great cottage holiday base for walking, cycling and taking full advantage of Derbyshire’s many attractions, Hartington is also the home of Nuttall’s Creamery – one of the few places producing Stilton Cheese.
A visit to the Cheese Shop is obligatory, and there are tea rooms and souvenir shops to browse, but to explore the fantastic countryside check out the Tissington and High Peaks Trail – great for walking and cycling. One of England’s finest stately homes, Chatsworth House, is not far away or, if you prefer more ancient heritage, walk to Arbor Low Stone Circle. There are several steam railways in the area including the Churnet Valley Railway and a mass of outdoor activities including caving, climbing, abseiling and potholing – enjoy!
