A charming market town that has changed little since the 18th century, Ashbourne nestles in a lush valley on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Ashbourne is possibly most famous for its annual Shrovetide Football Match where two teams battle it out using the whole town as the ‘pitch’ with goal posts literally three miles apart.
With its cobbled market place, Georgian buildings, antique shops, boutiques, bistros and the glorious Peak District on your doorstep, Ashbourne is a perfect place for a peaceful cottage holiday.
Ashbourne hosts a lively market every Thursday and Saturday and offers a range of great shops, pubs and eateries. Out of town, cyclists and walkers will enjoy the Tissington trail and the many other superb trails and routes.
Chatsworth House is a must if you’re visiting the Peak District with its fine house, gardens and farmyard, plus there are spectacular caves in the Peak District including Poole’s Cavern near Buxton. Nearby outdoor activities include horse riding, rock climbing and abseiling.
