Regarded by many as one of the most colourful, creative and diverse cities in Europe, from its humble roots as a Saxon shoreside farmstead called Beorthelm’s tun, Brighton grew into a flourishing medieval fishing port and on to an 18th century Regency love affair.
This vibrant little city literally bristles with energy and you’ll discover all kinds of delights for everyone amongst its winding streets, splendid esplanades and refined Georgian town houses, all close to your welcoming holiday cottage. It’s a real mix of culture, heritage and fun, plus, backed by the gorgeous South Downs Britain’s newest National Park, you’ll be spoilt for choice for activities and great attractions and, don’t worry if you don’t have a car, you can catch a bus into the heart of the Downs from Brighton and back!
Out and about culture lovers make a beeline for the incomparable Royal Pavilion, holiday palace of the Prince Regent (George IV) and Brighton’s world class Museum and Art Galleries.
For full on seaside fun enjoy Brighton’s Victorian pier with fairground and arcades, Brighton Sea Life Centre and Lagoon Watersports Centre at nearby Hove for all things wet and wild, plus Brighton’s Toy and Model Museum for kids of all ages. For something a little different how about mountain boarding or take to the air for a bird’s eye view with Brighton Scenic for an aerial tour of the South Coast. Further afield, leave the car behind and take a bus out to the gorgeous rolling hills and chalk cliffs of the South Downs for wonderful walks, nature, riding, fishing and great cycle routes.
