Lord Byron, Robin Hood, D H Lawrence and Brian Clough are just a few of the colourful and romantic characters that inhabit the heritage of Nottinghamshire. A centre for lace making, Nottinghamshire is probably most famous for Hood and the royal hunting forest of Sherwood, Nottinghamshire is a picturesque landscape of rich farm land, forest, fine houses, market towns and rolling countryside – a great location for a fun packed holiday cottage break.
The legend of Robin Hood grew up around the inns and byways of this rural county and you can still explore Hood’s ancient forest today, plus Nottingham Castle, home to the ‘evil’ Sheriff. Nottingham’s ancient roots belie a contemporary city and culture lovers will enjoy world class galleries, museums and performance venues including the Playhouse, Theatre Royal and not forgetting top cricket ground Trent Bridge.
Further afield Nottinghamshire offers plenty of great attractions and activities. Kids will love the wealth of farm and theme parks, plus superb nature reserves. Be it walking, cycling, riding, boating and, of course archery, Nottinghamshire offers plenty for the whole family to explore and enjoy.
