Seahouses

The hardworking little harbour at Seahouses has handled corn, quicklime and, from the mid 1800s, cargoes of glistening herring for which the little seaside town is probably best know.   At one time the port hosted 10 herring yards and the harbour was enlarged to accommodate a huge visiting fleet.  Today, with the decline in herring fishing this lively town also enjoys welcoming visitors to its tearooms, harbour, seafront, heritage walks and scenic golf links, plus the many attractions of the Northumberland coast.

Starting point for the Great North Bike Ride, this is superb walking, cycling and riding country.  Close to Bamburgh, Alnwick and border town of Berwick on Tweed, from a welcoming holiday cottage in Seahouses you’re ideally placed to enjoy all the great beaches, wildlife, castles, heritage, countryside and activities in this lovely region of the UK.

Things to do in Seahouses

Established in 1827, visit the historic Lifeboat Station and don’t miss the annual Seahouses Lifeboat Fete and Family Fun Day, held at the end of August.  Hop aboard one of the many boat trips that will take you out to the wonderful Farne Islands where you’ll see a colony of Atlantic Grey Seals and renowned nature reserves for puffins and many other species of seabirds, plus trips to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

Enjoy crazy golf with the kids on the seafront, hot fish n’chips on the harbour, beach rides and sandcastles on the lovely sandy beach that rolls out, unbroken down to Bamburgh and its majestic castle.  Golfers will also love the local golf course and you’re also close to Alnwick with its castle, glorious gardens and giant tree house.
