Start your exploring at Penrith Museum and then, only a few miles outside the town you’ll find Lowther Castle, which includes the Lakeland Bird of Prey Sanctuary.  Many activities are centred around Ullswater from Sailing and canoeing to leisurely cruises on the Ullswater Steamers, or enjoy a spot of tranquillity Fly Fishing on the River Eden.  Blow the cobwebs away walking and pony trekking, plus The Dalemain Estate and Steam Railway in Alston are both real heritage treasures and great family days out.
