The Lake District and Cumbria is a very special place. With its 14 lakes and tarns, the hard volcanic rock of the valley bottoms not allowing the rain water to seep away has given rise to the beautiful scenery of high peaks, wooded valleys, rivers, waterfalls and lakes.

The draw of the lakes not only lies in the grandeur of the scenery but also the wealth of attractions that have grown up in and around the area. Beautiful locations for Lake District cottage holidays include Keswick, Penrith, Grasmere, Ambleside and Coniston, all offering fabulous walking, climbing, cycling, riding and plenty of messing about in boats! Other popular centres are Windermere, Bowness and the more tranquil Buttermere.

With around 1,800 miles of paths for walkers from wooded valleys and lakeside rambles to hill walking you’ll be spoilt for choice. As you can imagine outdoor pursuits are hugely popular including abseiling, canoeing, cycling, sailing, rock climbing, even hot air ballooning, plus many, many more!

For fun filled days out for the family check out award winning South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the fascinating Lakes Aquarium, Beatrix Potter Experience and Holker Hall.
