Things to do in Buttermere

The National Trust owns much of the land and lakes in the area. A walkers’ paradise, with map and compass, stride out on your own or check out the many guided walks. Boat hire is also available from the National Trust on nearby Crummock Water. Birdwatchers can have a field day watching local ospreys and fishing is available on all three of Buttermere’s lakes. For rainy days visit the Honister Slate Mine, the original Cars of the Stars museum in Keswick and, on the coast in Maryport, the Coast Aquarium.
