Bowness-on-Windermere is Cumbria’s most popular tourist destination and, as you’d imagine, nestles on the banks of the famous lake itself.  In the 19th century wealthy Victorians flocked here building their large houses overlooking the lake for their families to relax and enjoy the fresh air and stunning views. Things to do in Bowness

Hire a boat on Lake Windermere or take one of the famous Windermere Steamers to Lakeside where you’ll find a great Aquarium and the fabulous Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway.  Don’t miss the Blackwell Arts and Crafts House in the town itself, as well as the nearby delights of the World of Beatrix Potter and, of course, get your boots on as walking in this beautiful area is the best way to take in the fabulous scenery.
