Boasting some of Britain’s best beaches, a stunning natural harbour and bustling quayside, Poole is a great cottage holiday location and well placed for bags of fun in, on and around the water with Dorset’s gorgeous coast and countryside on your doorstep.
Beautiful Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour played host to Lord Baden Powell’s first every Scout camp and, in World War II, 81 landing craft set off from Poole to take part in the D-day landings. Now, with its 3 miles of golden Blue Flag beach, it’s a hugely popular resort.
Experience the thrill of some great watersports in the massive harbour; relax and enjoy alfresco dining in the fantastic quayside restaurants; explore the 150km of breathtaking coastline or enjoy entertainment and adventure in some of Britain’s finest rural countryside in the National Park of the New Forest.
Poole is a watersports paradise with wind and kite surfing aplenty in the harbour, skippered yachts and powerboats to hire. Fully redeveloped Poole Museum is well worth a visit, plus, enjoy boutique quayside shops, famous Poole Pottery and the vibrant arts scene; checkout The Lighthouse – the biggest arts centre outside London.
The wildlife haven of Brownsea Island is only a 20 minute boat trip away; walkers will love the South West Coast Path that starts in Poole and there are some great trails for walking and cycling around Poole Harbour itself.
Out of town visit Beaulieu with its Abbey, gorgeous garden and Motor Museum, spectacular Corfe Castle and the Blue Pool – a unique beauty spot on the Isle of Purbeck. To let off steam go wild at Adventure Wonderland, a great fun family theme park!
