Woolacombe

With a relaxed atmosphere, foam topped Atlantic surf and long stretches of award-wining beaches, it’s no wonder Woolacombe is a mecca for surfers and seaside fun seekers.

Named ‘Wolnecoma’ or Wolf Valley in the Domesday Book, the beach is now the main focus of this vibrant little village.  Sandwiched between two dramatic peninsulas, known locally as Baggy Point and Morte Point, Woolacombe beach boasts three miles of great waves, clean water and golden sands with life guards on duty in the summer to ensure safe family swimming.

The village itself is full of friendly pubs, restaurants and surrounded by great coastal walks.  Within a few miles of your Woolacombe holiday cottage there are bags of activities and attractions to give even the most adventurous many fun filled hours.

Things to do in Woolacombe

With such great beaches it would be madness not to make the most of them, so as well as sandcastles, snoozing and picnics try a few surf lessons from the experts or a spot of horse riding over the dunes.  There are two championship golf courses at nearby Saunton Golf course and a short trip up the road brings you to Ilfracombe, a bustling little seaside resort with boat trips to the beautiful Lundy Island.

Cyclists can enjoy over 30 miles of the Tarka Trail, plus the Exmoor National Park for great cycle trails and miles of walks, as well as wildlife, letting off steam and lots of canoeing.  Heritage lovers visit the National Trust’s Arlington Court and its beautiful carriage museum and for fantastic fun with all the family spend a day at Watermouth Castle and Theme Park.
