Holiday Cottages in Torquay

Torquay

With its mild climate, palm tree lined promenades and superb setting among the ‘seven green hills’, it’s easy to see why Torquay enjoys the title, ‘Queen of the English Riviera’.  It was the Victorians who first recognised this spot as an excellent seaside retreat and you’ll find many elegant Victorian buildings and beautiful 19th century villas nestling amongst the lush green hilltops overlooking the golden bay.

Along with Paignton and Brixham, Torquay is part of the wider Torbay region – an area backed by steep hills that create the perfect suntrap, on average keeping temperatures above the rest of the UK.  The waterfront includes a marina, theatre, restaurants, wine bars and many boutique shops to browse, plus caves, gardens, beaches and ancient monuments all within easy reach of your perfect Torquay holiday cottage.

Things to do in Torquay

With nine beaches to choose from and, according to BBC’s Coast, the best sand in the UK for building sandcastles, what self respecting, sandcastle building family could ask for more?  And yet, there is much, much more to Torquay, including the award-wining Kents Cavern taking you on a trip underground geological mystery tour, plus nearby Torre Abbey providing peaceful gardens and a hallowed history.

Agatha Christie was born and lived much of her life in Torquay and fans of the crime writer can visit the Agatha Christie gallery in the Torquay Museum, as well as her summer residence Greenway Gardens, now run by the National Trust.  For a wild, wet and wacky time take the kids to Quaywest Waterpark and popular Paignton Zoo just down the road for a fun family day out.
