Following Devon’s Jurassic south coast south of Lyme Regis, Sidmouth sits at the mouth of the River Sid amongst the lush green hills of the Sid Valley and Devon’s impressive red sandstone cliffs. A favourite spot of Poet John Betjeman, Sidmouth is renowned for its fine Regency architecture, gardens, beaches and coastal splendour. Home to smugglers, fishermen and royal visitors, Sidmouth’s history and architecture gives it a slightly timeless, quintessentially English feel and today it’s home to boutique shops, galleries, pubs, great restaurants and annual festivals.
Beach huts, rock pools and golden sands, a favourite with families check out the main Clifton beach, Jacobs Ladder and Point Royal. The amazing sandstone cliffs are part of Devon’s World Heritage Site Jurassic coast and there are many walks, including ones to Branscombe and lovely little village of Beer, plus you’re on the South West Coastal Path. On sea or land, there’s plenty to do including swimming, pony trekking, climbing, sailing and golf; kids will love nearby Donkey Sanctuary!
