Salcombe

A ‘real deal’ Devon seaside town, Salcombe’s extensive waterfront and naturally sheltered harbour make it an ideal location for a relaxing seaside cottage holiday.  In Victorian times this little Devon harbour was famed for its boat and shipbuilding but now it’s a haven for tourists in search of beautiful beaches, sailing, walking or simply looking to wander around the narrow streets and browse the many charming shops.

The mild climate is provides a great environment for rare plants and sea life.  Dolphins and basking sharks are frequent visitors to Salcombe’s coastal waters, as are the many yachts that can be seen in the Kingsbridge Estuary from the waterside paths.  If you can’t resist the lure of the water, why not hire one yourself and enjoy Salcombe’s charms from the sea?!

Things to do in Salcombe

Children will love the hands on displays and tales of smugglers found at the Maritime and local history museum and, if it’s relaxation you’re looking for, visit the picturesque fishing villages of Hope Cove with their thatched cottages and clean sandy beaches.  For those in search of fun on the water you can hire fishing boats, sailing boats and costal rides from along the quayside at Whitestrand Boat Hire among others and with the many wrecks off this stretch of coastline there are also plenty of diving schools to choose from.

Walkers will find the South West Coastal Path provides beautiful views over cliff top paths and the subtropical plants and spectacular views of the National Trust’s Overbecks Museum and Gardens is a wonderful day out for everyone.
