A charming little town on the River Torridge in North Devon, Bideford was the 3rd largest port in Britain in the 16th century. Its famous, medieval Long Bridge spans the river and its pretty narrow streets and tree-lined quay make it a great spot for a cottage holiday. Charles Kingsley lived here and set Westward Ho! around the area, which renowned for beautiful countryside, wonderful beaches and gorgeous coastal walks.
Wander the pretty streets of Bideford, stroll by the quayside and visit the Museum and Art Gallery. For outdoor fun head for The Bideford Cycle shop that hires bikes, surfboards and Kayaks, and take the Tarka trail, a popular unspoilt route for cyclists of all ages. HMS Oldenburg is moored along the quay and offers regular trips to the Lundy Island, and the picturesque village of Clovelly is just along the coast. For family fun and games head for The Big Sheep just outside town.
