In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the north Cornish coast, Port Isaac, featured in the TV’s Poldark and more recently Doc Martin, is a picturesque little 14th century fishing village with many listed traditional stone cottages, winding streets and harbour. You can enjoy the great little eateries, galleries and shops dotted throughout the village and although Port Issac’s beach is shingle, Port Gaverne just around the headland offers a super sandy cove with rock pools and shallow sheltered bathing – perfect for families. Use the car park at the top of the village as streets are narrow and unforgiving!
Take a fishing or scenic boat trip to see wildlife and stunning coastline (available in the warmer months) from Port Isaac’s harbour. As well as Port Gaverne’s cove, surfers head for Polzeath and families love Daymer Bay only 4 miles away. Walk the many waymarked routes along the coastline including the path to Port Quin, deserted when most of the men were tragically lost at sea. Cycle the Camel Trail along the old railway bed; you’re also close to the Eden Project, King Arthur’s castle at Tintagel and the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway.
