Holiday Cottages in Chester

Chester

Around 75 AD Romans built a wooden fort on the banks of the River Dee called Deva.  A civilian settlement soon snuggled up to the fort and a town quickly established itself along with a bustling port bringing in supplies for the garrison and burgeoning township.  The town was important enough to have an amphitheatre, the remains of which are still in evidence today but it was the Saxons who gave Chester its name and truly established it as a flourishing market town and port for hundreds of years.

Today, Chester shows off its fantastic heritage in its fine walls, unique medieval buildings and Roman remains.  Surrounded by rich farm land, the regional food and drink in Cheshire is second to none and is reflected in the many good eateries to be found amongst the boutique shops.

Browse the fascinating museum and galleries, enjoy boating on the River Dee, explore the Chester Cathedral, walk the city walls and learn all about Chester’s unique history.  When the sun goes down the city comes to life with vibrant pubs, restaurants and cafés – a super place for a cottage holiday whatever time of year!
