Further afield, where better than Cheshire to try you hand at being a farmer for a day? Everyone is welcome on a working dairy farm and can have a whole or half day down on the farm milking the cows. If you prefer to take things a little easier enjoy a stroll around Ness Botanical Gardens home to Britain’s largest Laburnum arch; Tatton Park Gardens, recently voted number 1 garden in Central England by readers of Gardeners’ World and Tudor Gawsworth Hall with its open air theatre.
Little and large scientists head for Jodrell Bank, home to the star gazing Lovell Telescope, superb visitors’ centre and arboretum. With its strong industrial heritage there is also the astonishing Anderton Boat Lift that will literally hoist you through the air from one river to another while still in your boat! Plus the Silk Museum, Macclesfield, for hands-on heritage and a peek into the past.
