Things to do in Charente

There are several islands just off the coast of which the beautiful Il de Ré is a must do trip; accessible by road bridge, with is its ten pretty villages, gorgeous sandy beaches and forests enjoy a wealth of activities including watersports, cycling and horse riding. If you’re looking for interesting heritage head for Angoulème’s impressive cathedral and nearby superb Château de la Rochefoucauld, home to the same family for over a thousand years.  

Visit the ancient seaside town of La Rochelle with its excellent aquarium, rent a boat for a lazy day on the River Charente or walk through some beautiful countryside in search of megalithic sites.  For a great day out with the family don’t forget the spectacular futuristic theme park, Futuroscope, just outside Poitiers with IMAX, 3D cinemas and thrilling rides.
