Things to do in Var

For breathtaking scenery and superb outdoor activities including hiking, biking and canoeing head inland to the gorgeous national park of Gorges du Verdon.  You’ll pass through hilltop villages and along winding scenic roads with great views.  On the river Caramy is Brignoles the capital of Var; visit the town’s museum, ramparts and inner city, plus great Saturday morning market.  Fréjus, inland from the resort of St Raphael was once an important Roman port with its aqueduct, amphitheatre and theatre for special summer events.  Visit too Port Grimaud for yachts and medieval perched village.

On Var’s fabulous scenic coast line visit the Calanques south-east of Marseille; accessible either walking or by boat from Cassis enjoy their stunning natural beauty, plus the protected islands of Iles d’Hyeres for wildlife and tranquility.  If you like a bit of glamour and shopping you can’t beat Saint Tropez; chic and wealthy check out Plage de Pampelonne for 5kms of white sand and for the more adventurous, wilder Gigaro beach and lovely village of La Croix Valmer.  Once peeled off the many super beaches families love Aqualand near Fréjus – water heaven!
