Our closest neighbours, the départements of Pas de Calais and Picardy, unfold in France’s rich northern landscapes, home to a wealth of ancient and modern heritage and vibrant cultures; explore its broad sandy beaches, historic cities and unspoilt rural charm. Normandy too combines world class museums, unrivalled heritage and attractions alongside boundless outdoor activities. The popular département of Île-de-France, means Paris – city of romance, opulence, ancient forests and glittering canals with bags of top heritage and family attractions from the Eiffel Tower to Versailles and Disneyland.
Brittany with its mild climate and around 1,900 miles of unspoilt Atlantic coastline is a lovely location for great watersports, walking, cycling and exploring the many beaches, coves and islands. Seafood is a big here, plus it’s a top spot for spas, festivals and great golf, as well as medieval castles and charming gardens. Dropping just to the south you’ll find Vendee and Charente, a region of sandy beaches backed by pine forests and rural landscapes. Winters are mild and summers are warm, great for sun soaked beach fun and watersports, plus heritage, local produce and some of France’s best theme parks!
The Loire and Loire Valley is a gorgeous location, so much so that the Loire Valley is designated a World Heritage Site. Think fairytale châteaux, superb scenery, watersports, walking and cycling; hidden villages, awe inspiring caves and dawn balloon rides! Moving further south Limousin, Dordogne and Lot offer ancient oak forests, fortified towns and lush tranquil river valleys. Thought of by many as ‘the real France’, this region is alive with pageantry, glorious gardens and is an anglers’ favourite.
To the south west and Aquitaine where the sun soaked vineyards of Bordeaux and Armagnac surround ancient heritage, natural beauty and wildlife, plus there’s miles upon miles of Atlantic washed unspoilt coastline and the mighty Pyrénées Mountains. Languedoc-Rousillion is renowned for wonderful national parks, Roman antiquity and superb watersports on its Mediterranean lapped sandy shores and amazing saltwater lagoons.
The region breathtaking region of Provence in the south east, bordering Italy and the Med, offers plenty of unspoilt natural charm. With rolling fields of sunflowers and lavender stretching out to heat hazed horizons, check out the bustling market towns, sensational local produce, markets, wildlife and wealth of ancient heritage including Roman amphitheatres and papal palaces. And last, but by no means least, the iconic Côte d’Azur or French Riviera. Part of Provence this vibrant and chic playground of the rich and famous means coastal splendour and bags of fun in the sun with sailing, surfing, cycling, golf, the cream of café society and lots of family entertainment. All this plus Esterel Hills and Massif des Maures for walking, mountain biking, climbing and rafting – perfect!
